Right To Play and Chelsea Football Club –

Inspiring Children Beyond Stamford Bridge

‘We went to the heart of Ghana, the poorest areas... working with kids and putting a smile on their faces. It has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. I’ll never forget it.’

SAM HUTCHINSON, CHELSEA F.C. & ENGLAND U-19 CAPTAIN

With Chelsea F.C. and Right To Play's partnership entering its third consecutive year, it seems right to reflect on our remarkable achievements so far :

  • We have hosted two incredibly successful World Cups at Stamford Bridge, raising more than £200,000 for children and young people living in disadvantaged communities across the 23 countries where we work.

  • A delegation of players and Chelsea staff have visited our projects in Ghana. In addition to Michael Essien and José Mourinho inspiring thousands of children participating in our programmes, the trip raised awareness for Sport for Development and helped educate young Chelsea players in what is expected of them as future first-team players

  • Four Chelsea players have agreed to be Athlete Ambassadors for Right To Play - Michael Essien, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, and Salomon Kalou. These outstanding athletes serve as spokespeople and role-models for those benefitting from our care.

  • Chelsea coaches Darren Grace and Frank O’Brien visited our projects in Lebanon to work with local teams. Young Lebanese and Palestinian refugees overseen by them went on to represent Right To Play against the likes of Ajax and Bayern Munich in Chelsea's Cobham Youth Cup (2008).

  • Corporate hospitality has been donated to Right To Play to host and cultivate potential partners and donors in the up-coming year.

As our UK profile and working relationship with Chelsea continues to develop, we seek to surpass our ambitious fundraising target of £2 million by 2012. With the help of its dedicated players and staff, as well as events such as the Stamford Bridge World Cup, this goal is a considerable way to being achieved. More than 525 thousand children benefit regularly from our programming in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world. With Chelsea's help in 2009, we hope to increase this number even more.

'What Right To Play achieves using sport is fantastic. Everyone at the club is fully behind their work and we are all proud to support them.'
