Global charity Right To Play is pleased to announce today (7/09/2007) that London Wasps and Samoan international rugby player, Daniel Leo has joined as an athlete ambassador.

On the field, Leo, in his two seasons with London Wasps, has made a huge impact, helping the team become European Champions as well as domestic trophy winners.

Off the field he is hoping to make an impact with Right To Play.

Leo moved to Australia from New Zealand at the age of 18 to join Sunnybank Rugby Club in Brisbane, he was subsequently signed by Super 14

side, Queensland Reds. However Dan’s focus is now set for this year’s Rugby World Cup in France, where he will be representing Samoa in Ruby’s most prestigious competition.

Speaking at a recent photo shoot to launch the partnership, Dan said: ‘Obviously it’s an awesome privilege for me to be a part of Right To Play and I appreciate the  chance it offers to bring joy to less privileged communities through sports, as this has played a huge part in the happiness and development I have experienced in life too.’

Right To Play is a charity that uses specially designed sport and play programmes to improve health, build life skills, and foster peace for children and communities affected by war, poverty and disease. Working in both the humanitarian and development contexts, Right To Play has projects operating in more than 20 countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

Chris Robinson, National Director of Right To Play said: ‘We are so delighted to have Dan’s support in the humanitarian work we do. It is top athletes like him who help raise awareness and funding for the projects that Right To Play carry out.
