What is Right To Play?

Right To Play is a global organisation that protects, educates and empowers children to rise above adversity using play. By harnessing play, one of the most powerful and fundamental forces in a child’s life, we help 1.52 million children to stay in school and out of work, to prevent life-threatening diseases like HIV and malaria and to stay safe from exploitation and abuse. We are the only global development organisation focused exclusively on using play to transform the lives of children and youth impacted by poverty, war, disease and inequality. Established in 2000, Right To Play is headquartered in Toronto, Canada and has programs in 15 countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East and North America.

How does Right To Play implement their programmes?

Right To Play programmes are specifically designed to address children’s contextual needs. The programmes are implemented in close collaboration with communities, local civil society organisations and governments. Right To Play supports and builds capacity of local institutions and government to ensure sustainability of programme impact. All Right To Play programmes ensure meaningful and equal participation of girls and boys and we train teachers to use play-based learning to create safe and supportive environments in our core pillars: Quality Education, Gender Equality, Health & Well-Being, and Child Protection.
